Measurement and Olympics:
This lesson focused on the concept of measurement through real world application. Additionally, this lesson gave students opportunities for large and small motor movement which I believe is important for increasing focus, interest, and development.

Citizenship: First GradeThis lesson focused on learning and practicing the elements of being a good citizen. Specifically, they learned what it means to be a good citizen in the school and the classroom. In this lesson, the first graders had opportunities to think, talk, write, and draw about citizenship which made this lesson appropriate for learners of all levels.

The Element of Line: First
|
In this interdisciplinary lesson, the students learned about theme in poetry while exploring the art element of line. In this lesson, I used guided practice to ensure the students understood the concepts as well as the activity.

In this art lesson, the students learned about lines, different kinds of lines, as well as how they can use lines to create art. This activity also served as a team building activity that worked toward building a culture of respect and appreciation for differences in the classroom.

The Science of Sound: First
This lesson introduces the concept of sound and vibration to first grade students. After this lesson, the students were able to recognize that all sound comes from vibration. They also practiced appropriate experiment procedures such as making observations and practicing safety.

A Job to Create Community:
I, along with a team of other professionals, created this PBL from the perspective of a student. We focused on the "Tragedy of the Commons" and how it relates to school cafeteria destruction. We proposed that students apply for jobs within the cafeteria to create a culture of community and ownership.
